Background of the Company

The growing population and urbanization in Nepal have intensified the need for sustainable solutions to ensure food and energy security, especially as agriculture remains central to livelihoods despite facing challenges like limited land, low productivity, and inadequate access to modern practices. Agrivoltaics—an emerging concept that integrates solar energy generation with crop cultivation on the same land—offers a promising approach to address these issues. Recognized since 2017 by organizations like IRENA and UNCCD, agrivoltaic systems align with multiple Sustainable Development Goals by enhancing land-use efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, conserving water, and improving crop resilience to climate change. This dual-use model strengthens the energy-food-water nexus and holds significant potential for promoting sustainable agriculture and clean energy in Nepal.

Motivation

Ambition Solar Power Pvt. Ltd. was founded by two brothers a mechanical engineer and a business information system graduate from a generational farming family to address the challenges their parents faced in agriculture like power outages for pump-irrigation, low and seasonal production, post-harvest losses, and limited land utilization lead to continuous struggles and economic losses each year. To overcome these challenges, we embraced the innovative agrivoltaic concept, enabling simultaneous agriculture and clean energy generation-powering irrigation and selling surplus electricity to Nepal Electricity Authority creating a sustainable and profitable solution for farmers.

Ltd., based in Kathmandu, Nepal, is a solar power developer established to address the country’s pressing agricultural challenges while supporting its transition to sustainable energy. With a commitment to innovation at the intersection of energy and agriculture, the company plans to initiate its journey by installing a 500 kWp agrivoltaic farm on its own land—generating clean electricity while cultivating crops beneath solar panels. Building on this pilot project, the long-term vision is to scale operations through partnerships with local farmers, introducing agrivoltaic solutions to their fields and promoting modern, climate-resilient farming practices. With a dedicated team of energy developers, engineers, and researchers, Ambition Solar Power aims to drive inclusive growth by promoting agricultural productivity, clean energy generation, and related green businesses. The company is also engaged in research and consultation focused on sustainable energy solutions tailored to the needs of developing countries, contributing to food security and energy sustainability in Nepal.
